Chapel Hill bars and restaurants go green for St. Patrick's Day

Chapel Hill bars and restaurants will be going green on Saturday. Employees said they are anticipating large crowds and will offer combinations of Irish foods, drink specials and live music in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day.

Kildare’s

People who want to kick off the celebration by cracking open a beer at breakfast can go to Kildare’s Irish Pub, which opens at 7 a.m.

Natasha Wilson, marketing and events specialist at Kildare’s, said the pub will offer a full day and night of St. Patrick’s Day festivities, including musicians playing traditional Irish songs accompanied by Irish dancers and a bagpiper. Later in the night, local band Straight on Fire will take the stage followed by DJ FWB.

Drink specials include $5 car bombs and $4 Guinness beers.

Carolina Brewery

Carolina Brewery’s Sky Blue Golden Ale will take on a different hue Saturday.

Matt Clements, director of food and beverage, said they will offer a green version of their Sky Blue Golden Ale — one of their flagship beers.

The brewery’s limited time green version is a relatively new creation, Clements said.

“For years our brew master was hesitant to do it,” he said.

Carolina Brewery will also offer a special menu of Irish foods. They are giving out $25 gift cards to the person who drinks the last pint of each keg.

Top of the Hill

Top of the Hill will add two beer specials to its usual list of brews.

Steve Torchio, a floor manager at Top of the Hill, said the restaurant and bar will offer Saint Patrick’s Day food and other drink specials, including Irish Charlies and Irish car bombs.

He said they will host a DJ at 9 p.m. and will have no cover charge all day and night.
