Crying in Davis. Two M&M cookies smushed in your hand as you ride the escalator out of Lenoir. Basketball-induced hysteria (or, in this season’s case, weeping and gnashing of teeth). Silent Sam and the aftermath.
It’s 1:30 a.m. in The Daily Tar Heel office. University Editor Maeve Sheehey is waiting for the last story to come in while simultaneously studying for her history exam the next day.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this article misstated when Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz announced UNC would commit $2 million, over the next five years, for a senior level position focused on sexual violence prevention. He announced this in January at the Summit on Safety and Belonging. The article has been updated to reflect the change. The Daily Tar Heel apologizes for the error.
The term Nacirema is American spelled backward. It was first introduced by Horace Miner in, "Body Ritual Among the Nacirema." Today, it is mainly used by anthropologists to distance themselves, and avoid personal bias, when writing about American culture, its rituals, and its customs.

Division within the Democratic Party was as visible as ever Tuesday night on the South Carolina debate stage. Discourse ranged from the feasibility of health care plans — all of which are fever dreams under Mitch McConnell's leadership — to allegations Michael Bloomberg told a pregnant employee to “kill it”. Have you ever had a professor who was clearly intelligent, but completely clueless when it came to teaching? And even if you turned in the worst course evaluation, they would be protected by tenure? The current academic system allows for scientists and professors to remain as inadequate lecturers and instructors at prestigious universities, as long as they continue to produce high-quality research for the institution.
You can keep your sidearm football throws squeezed between four defenders and lacrosse-style hockey shots. Enjoy those no-hitters, perfect score gymnastics routines and absolute screamers on the soccer pitch. Same with the penalty-kick saves and diving outfield snags and Odell Beckham Jr. catches.
I will never forget stumbling upon the infinite.

Last summer, I dove into the intersection of technology, policy and refugee health.
I haven’t shied away from sharing my own opinions in this column. Although at times my pieces may have been light-hearted (anyone remember the best places to have sex on campus piece or the anal sex article?), I do believe that sex is political.
