Chapel Hill Town Council


Chapel Hill Town Manager Maurice Jones hopes to maintain good communication between Chapel Hill, the university, and the surrounding towns. His primary focus is affordable housing and transportation. Jones was appointed as town manager on July 10, 2018 and began to work on Aug. 20, 2018.

Chapel Hill's Town Manager tells us about leaving Charlottesville & recent protests

Maurice Jones was appointed as Chapel Hill's newest town manager in July 2017 and began in August. Prior to joining the Town of Chapel Hill staff, he was the town manager of Charlottesville, Va., notably during the protests of August 2017.  The Daily Tar Heel sat down with him on Monday for the first time to talk to him about his transition and goals for the town.

The way Chapel Hill looks will change in 2020

Town Council is working with residents to change Chapel Hill's landscape by updating the Land Use Management Ordinance to add apartment complexes, commercial offices and improve public transit pathways. A map that reflects how land will be used is supposed to be completed by the end of the year.
