Lessons from abroad: Program beneficial but only increased pay will solve teacher shortage

Bringing in new teachers from outside the country is one method many states are using to address this issue. The Visiting International Faculty Program (VIF) a private firm based here in Chapel Hill and the biggest sponsor of foreign teachers in the country will accept 500 new teachers in 2008.

And The Daily Tar Heel deserves some accolades for its coverage so far of the Halloween debate. When the paper first reported plans to curtail this year's Halloween festivities the front-page article included some rather blunt statements from Chapel Hill Mayor Kevin Foy.

Bottom feeding: Carolina Union Student Dining Services should offer late night dining option

According to a preliminary report the bottom floor of the Student Union might soon be renovated to introduce late-night dining. We fully back this idea and encourage Student Dining Services and the Carolina Union to agree on a plan to bring a late-night dining facility to the Union.

Voting 102: Board of Elections should keep student schedules in mind when setting poll hours
