Editorial: Chapel Hill needs more accessible parking
"Parking in Chapel Hill is already a stressful and difficult undertaking. But for the town’s disabled and low-income residents? It’s a nightmare."

"Tenure is absolutely essential to higher education, not only to protect professors but to ensure classrooms that foster productive debates, and are free from external censorship. It’s pivotal for students, professors and their research and should not be abridged by attempts to control curriculum."
"Recent abortion bans in the U.S. are not only dangerous to individuals in those states but take one more dangerous step toward threatening Roe. People should have the access and the choice to make health care decisions for themselves, and the weakening or overturning Roe would take away that access and that choice for many individuals."
"It's time to legalize something that is already widely used for recreational and medical purposes, allowing for sales and distribution to be regulated rather than attempting to control actions through criminal offenses or civil fines."
"We fell down a lot, and we also fought like hell to get back up. To get back to the good parts — the ones that make your heart feel light, right before the drop and the scream and the hands in the air."
"Politics have gotten in the way of doing the right thing for people in need. I’m a proud Tar Heel, and I’m even prouder to stand and work with fellow Tar Heels facing barriers that our state can and must solve."
"It can feel like life or death sometimes, but at the end of the day, it’s not your job to fix all of the DTH’s issues. Take the best things you can from it and hold those experiences close — I know I will."
"And it’s funny because even as I look back, lamenting some moments of struggle within the DTH, here I am almost a year later, wishing I could’ve contributed more."
"And I do represent Carolina. I represent the one in three women that are sexually assaulted on this campus. I represent the intelligent young women who come into this institution to study and accomplish great work, only to be exorcized of all morale, their diplomas inked with pain and fear. I also represent the lucky ones; the women who barely come out of that pain alive."
"UNC waiving the standardized testing requirement makes the application more equitable across socio-economic classes; however, with as much emphasis that has been put on the SATs and ACTs in the past, it is important that GPA and extracurriculars do not become a substitute."
"Before I short-circuit my keyboard with my tears, it’s time to say farewell with my parting gift: my very own Office DJ playlist, in honor of all of the students I’ve had the privilege of working alongside in the last four years."
"And lastly, a thank you to the DTH, for not only giving me a home, but for letting me chase my journalism dreams one more time. I don’t think I’ll know how much I’ll miss you until I’m gone."
Black Ink taught me how to be a writer, the Daily Tar Heel trained me how to be a reporter and the Raleigh News & Observer showed me how to be a professional.
"Graduate students are different from undergraduates in that being a student is our job. The current funding structure leaves us vulnerable to economic difficulty during a time when we should be resting, studying for important exams, working on professional development or spending time with our family and friends we aren’t able to see during the academic year. The University should fully recognize the contributions that graduate students bring to our community and commit to guaranteed pay throughout the summer."
"If open-book tests help alleviate anxiety among students and improve memory retention, then why aren’t more schools administering exams using this format? This is a question the University will hopefully grapple with in the coming years as higher education institutions continue to evolve."
"If college basketball doesn’t change and improve, it might be left behind. After all, what’s stopping an up-and-coming prospect from packing their bags to play abroad in a higher quality competition that actually pays them?"
"While grades matter more for those seeking to go to graduate school, they’re still a major source of stress for most students. Therefore, colleges should try to have consistency in how we’re all judged so at least it can be fair to all students."
"Our University cares more about restricting faculty access to behind-the-scenes deals and processes than donor access to the workings of our institution. This is a clear demonstration of how maligned UNC’s priorities are, which come at the direct cost of students and faculty who are being caught in the crossfire."
"In particular, minority students often feel the effects of harsher discipline in schools, which can affect their academic performance and career trajectories. A culmination of policing in schools and implicit biases create hostile learning environments for students of color."
