Op-ed: Bright Horizons takeover of University daycare ignores community voices

"We are heartbroken and disappointed that the qualities that made the University Day Care Center so exceptional are now likely to be subsumed by corporate, top-down standardization and that UNC administrators have chosen to risk the reputation of the Center as a leader in innovative, high-quality and community-driven early childhood education. We urge University and UNC Health leadership to recommit to prioritizing the voices of its families with young children and to transparent decision making."

Mobile botanical shop Botana-Cart rolls out products 'of this Earth,' including Delta-8

Hunter Bolesky and Brandon Srinath aren’t average businessmen. They’re the co-owners of Botana-Cart, a bicycle-powered botanical shop.  Their cart, which sports a marijuana leaf, serves the Chapel Hill and Carrboro area. Botana-Cart sells locally sourced, plant-based products from its cart, which can be spotted around Franklin Street on weekend nights, and via delivery. Among the company's product offerings is Delta-8, a cannabis compound.

Column: UNC's settlement distribution from antitrust lawsuit reflects inequity in higher ed

In August, a federal judge approved a $19 million settlement between thousands of faculty members at UNC and Duke to resolve a class-action lawsuit asserting that the two universities colluded not to steal faculty from each other. Duke and UNC allegedly held a “no-poach understanding” that reached back decades. Essentially, each university promised not to steal professors and faculty members from the other. This agreement violates state and federal antitrust laws. Neither Duke nor UNC-Chapel Hill admitted any wrongdoing in the settlements of either lawsuit.

Viral "Mario Kart Man" travels through Chapel Hill, UNC's campus

Joshua Schaffer was wandering the streets of Chapel Hill and UNC's campus driving a go-kart dressed as Nintendo's Mario. Students accordingly dubbed him the "Mario Kart Man." Schaffer runs multiple social media accounts where he has amassed a large following — most notably on TikTok where he has over 900,000 followers. Spreading joy is a large theme on both his Instagram and TikTok pages, where he shares videos of his shenanigans. Patrick McPode, Schaffer’s social media manager, said the two are performing the social media gag in different places across the country.
