 After coming from 2 sets down to beat Tennesee on Friday, North Carolina's women’s volleyball team hoped to keep to continue their win streak when they took on Marshall early Saturday. Unfortunately, the Thundering Herd had different plans.

Tar Heels drop first match since mid-October

The bad news for the North Carolina women's volleyball team is that Florida State swept the Tar Heels 25-17 25-20 25-21 Friday night at the Smith Center breaking a nine-game winning streak. The good news is that UNC (20-10 14-5 ACC) is still in control of its destiny and can clinch the ACC title with a win in its last regular season game Nov. 28 against N.C. State.

Heels take win against ACC No. 2 'Canes

It's not every day that a referee issues a yellow card at the Smith Center. But that's just what happened on Thursday to Miami coach Nicole Welch called for arguing near the end of the third set in the North Carolina women's volleyball team's match against the Hurricanes. And Welch's and her players' frustration was just what the Tar Heels needed to pull out the victory in four sets 25-23 23-25 25-21 25-18.

Heels notch eighth consecutive win stay atop ACC

The last time the North Carolina women's volleyball team (19-9 13-4 ACC) won eight games in a row the Tar Heels went on to win the ACC Championship. Sunday the team won its eighth match in a row (25-20 25-19 25-20) sweeping Wake Forest and avenging an earlier 3-0 loss to the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem.

UNC women's volleyball destroys Blue Devils

The North Carolina women's volleyball team continued its dominance of the net by allowing only a .093 hitting percentage from conference rival Duke. The Tar Heels lead the ACC in opponent hitting percentage at .144. Coach Joe Sagula said playing good defense is three-fold — requiring consistent back row digging strong blocking and solid serving — and the Tar Heels have done all three well this year.

Heels claim top spot in ACC with sweep

As North Carolina and Duke volleyball teams prepared for their second match of the season the Tar Heels got off to a very bad start. When freshman setter Erica Behm heard her name announced in the starting lineup she trotted in front of her teammates slapping hands" and tripped over junior middle hitter Christine Vaughen's foot. ""I really thought she was going to walk over and say" ‘All right I'm OK. I'm going to be all right"'"" coach Joe Sagula said. ""And she said"" ‘I can't go.'""

Tar Heels record big wins before road trip

After taking down two of the top teams in the ACC at home the North Carolina volleyball team (13-9 7-4 ACC) will head out on two weekend road trips. The Tar Heels defeated Clemson (16-6 8-3 ACC) and Georgia Tech (15-6 7-4 ACC) this weekend to put them in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference.

Tar Heels fail to close sets in tough ACC loss

One night after recording a comeback win against conference-leading Virginia Tech the North Carolina volleyball team could not put away middling Virginia on Friday. The Tar Heels (9-8 3-3 ACC) dropped the first set before taking the next two and a five-point lead late in the fourth set. But UVa. came back to win that set and the decisive fifth.

The North Carolina volleyball team knocked off the ACC's No. 1 on Thursday to remain undefeated in the Smith Center this season.
