Fundraiser sends yoga to Africa

The Franklin Street Yoga Center sent 35 teachers and students to gather in a circle on McCorkle Place where they practiced 108 sets of poses called sun salutations, a traditional custom that honors the changing of seasons.

Max Sterling is raising the bar. The 27-year-old UNC student who works as a bouncer at East End Oyster & Martini Bar makes his living handling the intoxicated and those who wish to be. As part of the door staff, Sterling is tasked with keeping the bar in order.

Citizens Police class graduates

Ten local residents graduated from a program Tuesday that taught skills and expertise ranging from firearms to gangs — and now, the police department asks them to be ambassadors to the community. The Chapel Hill Police Department graduated its first Citizens Police Academy class, a program designed to build a closer relationship between the police and those it aims to protect.
