UNC smokes St. Francis (Pa.), 103-54

The North Carolina men’s basketball team hasn’t had seven players score in double figures in the same game since it pounded Manhattan in 1985. Sunday night, this year’s Tar Heels did the 1985-86 squad one better, as eight double-digit scorers helped the Tar Heels trounce St. Francis (Pa.) at the Smith Center, 103-54.

UNC soccer hopes to spare the drama against SMU

The North Carolina men’s soccer team can be confident of at least one thing entering its quarterfinal matchup with Southern Methodist University on Friday. If the game comes down to penalty kicks, recent history is on the Tar Heels’ side. UNC has won the first two games of the NCAA Tournament at the soccer charity stripe in 5-4 fashion.

Men's soccer team falls to Maryland in ACC finals

CARY — It was a valiant effort. Playing a man down for 55 minutes after senior Michael Farfan picked up a red card, the North Carolina men’s soccer team came as close to equalizing Maryland’s one-goal lead as they could. But it wasn’t in the cards Sunday as Maryland trumped the No. 4-seeded Tar Heels 1-0 in the finals of the ACC Tournament.

Tar Heels handle Barton College 108-67

North Carolina won its first exhibition game of the season 108-67 over visiting Barton College. The Tar Heels were anchored by a game-high 25 points from Tyler Zeller who dominated on defense and offense with his superior size. The game was also the first for North Carolina’s three heralded freshmen.

North Carolina leads Barton 57-35 at halftime

North Carolina leads Barton College at halftime in the Tar Heels opening exhibition game. Tyler Zeller leads all UNC scorers with 14 points. The Tar Heels got off to a slow start early on, but used a flurry of fast-break points and stifling defense to jump out to a convincing half-time lead.
