UNC resilient in dramatic victory

WINSTON-SALEM - The North Carolina football team has experienced both thrilling wins and embarrassing losses this season, often one right after the other. Similar highs and lows occurred within North Carolina's 31-24 victory against Wake Forest on Saturday. Some of the Tar Heels' best plays followed some of their worst mistakes, but UNC proved to be resilient throughout the game. Thirty-one points seemed out of reach for UNC after a scoreless first quarter, but the Tar Heels were ready to provide some surprises.

Storey gets 29th goal of storied career

In 1988, North Carolina men's soccer player Donald Cogsville made his mark in the record books by scoring 29 career goals. Now, 16 years later, senior Marcus Storey has matched this accomplishment with his goal against William & Mary on Wednesday. Storey is now tied with Cogsville at eighth place on the all-time UNC career goals list. Even with this success, Storey remained grounded.

Tar Heels shut out No. 7 USC to build win streak

While most students used Fall Break to relax, the North Carolina men's soccer team was willing to work. The Tar Heels beat No. 7 South Carolina 2-0 Saturday, proving they were not in a break frame of mind. The win gave UNC (5-6-2) its first two-game winning streak after defeating Elon 3-1 Wednesday. The Tar Heels also handed USC (8-3-1) its second shutout of the season.

Sloustcher modest after 1st goal

Freshman Adam Sloustcher sprinted toward the crowd in excitement after scoring the game-winning goal in North Carolina's win against No. 12 Virginia on Sunday. Sloustcher's celebration did not last long before he turned to find senior Tim Merritt to congratulate him on the assist. "I wanted to wave to the fans and credit Tim," Sloustcher said. "I give a lot of credit to Tim. I ran straight to him. Timmy had a great play. The goal was set up when the ball bounced to Merritt, who flicked it over his head to a wide-open Sloustcher.
