Volunteer fair aims to involve students

Students walking through the Pit on Wednesday have lost a prime excuse not to be involved in the Orange County community. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce and the Carolina Center for Public Health hosted the sixth-annual Chamber Volunteer Fair in an effort to get students involved in the community. Co-sponsored by The Chapel Hill News, student government and the University's Graduate and Professional School, 49 organizations were represented at the fair. The organizations ranged from mentors for community youth to rape crisis center volunteers.

Local political web site celebrates second birthday

Local political activists will have cause to celebrate tonight. OrangePolitics.org, a community Web site that provides a space for locals and politicians to meet to discuss Orange County issues, will celebrate its second birthday today. Ruby Sinreich, editor and founder of the online forum, created the site to allow people to post their concerns about Orange County. Sinreich said the site is an outlet for those who want to make their opinions known or simply to read the opinions of others in the community.
