Report Asks to Amend to Sanctions, Burden of Proof

The Chancellor's Task Force to Review the Student Judicial System submitted its final report to Chancellor James Moeser last week. The report titled, "The Practice of Honor at UNC Chapel Hill" proposes significant changes to the Code of Student Conduct.

Harvard Modifies Early Decision Rule

Weeks after UNC became the first major university to drop its early decision program, officials at Harvard University announced that they are also considering a change in its early admission policy. The proposal allows students who submit one or more binding early decision applications to another university to apply to Harvard in spite of the honor-bound contract that characterizes binding applications. Early decision programs prohibit students who have been accepted through early admission at one university from applying elsewhere.

UNC Hospitals Responds to List of Deficiencies

Officials from UNC Hospitals met this week to prepare a plan of action in response to deficiencies identified in a letter from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services' Division of Facility Services. The letter, which was received by UNC Hospitals President and CEO Eric Munson on May 31, requested a response to "standard level deficiencies" cited during a survey of the hospital by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in May 2001. The response was due today, 10 working days after receipt of the notice. Munson was unavailable for comment.
