Officials Alert Campus After Recent Assault By Natalie Harrison Staff Writer UNC police continue to warn students and faculty to be careful when walking around campus late at night after last week's reported assault on a student. Chief Derek Poarch of University Police said no arrests have been made in the case at this time. "(We) are following a number of different leads," Poarch said. But he said he was unable to comment on any specific developments at this time.

University officials are united in praising efforts to integrate technology and education on campus, and say they have high goals for the future. The UNC effort to make new technology an effective teaching tool begins with the Carolina Computing Initiative, created in 1997 by the late Chancellor Michael Hooker.

Palm Ready to Start Second Term as Dean

The University's College of Arts and Sciences can look forward to another half-decade of managerial continuity as its head returns for a second term. Risa Palm, Dean of the college since 1997, was appointed to a second term June 19 when a new five-year contract was approved by the Office of the Provost and the UNC Board of Governors. Provost Robert Shelton said he was glad to see Palm's reappointment. "I have had many meetings with Dean Palm, and I am impressed by the way she has organized the college," Shelton said.
