UNC gymnast Hallie Thompson battling back from second ACL tear ahead of 2023 season

In the first meet of the 2022 season, then-junior UNC gymnast Hallie Thompson stepped up to compete in the bar routine and suffered the second ACL tear of her collegiate athletics career — sidelining her for yet another season. After working hard to get back to the mat and put together an all-around meet her junior year, she’s prepared to work even harder to meet those same goals her senior season.

Tar Heels in the Pros: former UNC women's soccer player Crystal Dunn excels as a Portland Thorn

Former UNC women's soccer star Crystal Dunn, who played soccer for the Tar Heels from 2010-2013, is one of the most high-profile athletes to come out of Chapel Hill within the past decade. With her 2021 CONCACAF Women’s Player of the Year accreditation after her past season with the Portland Thorns, and a 2019 World Cup win with the US Women’s National Team, Dunn’s success at the professional level parallels her time at UNC.

Jeni Shannon's work with UNC athletes highlights importance of mental health resources

Jeni Shannon, the director of the Carolina Athletics Mental Health and Performance Psychology Program, is one of three full-time providers at UNC pioneering the athletic department’s approach to sports psychology. Shannon, alongside Dr. Brendan Carr and Dr. Bradley Hack, work directly with a number of athletic teams at UNC through sessions, outreach, and programming.
