Musical Empowerment, a nonprofit organization founded at UNC, hosted a benefit concert on Aug. 30 to celebrate its 20th anniversary and its mission of providing free music lessons for kids.
Ben Folds' initiative Keys For Kids is supporting seven non-profit organizations in North Carolina to provide little-to-no-cost keyboards and music lessons to children. Born and raised in Winston Salem, Folds is an American singer-songwriter and the frontman of the alternative rock band Ben Folds Five, which was formed in Chapel Hill. Keys For Kids is currently focusing exclusively on organizations in North Carolina, and several of the seven non-profit organizations are based in the Research Triangle.
Two community workshops will be held in the Koch Memorial Forest Theatre to gather community feedback on renovations for the theatre that would address the lack of maintenance and enhance accessibility.
Chapel Hill may be welcoming its first Cook Out location at 450 South Elliott Rd., where a Burger King has resided for over 10 years. If the change of tenant is approved, the new location would be the closest one to UNC's campus. The new Cook Out will have a drive-through, as minimal changes will be made to the exterior of the building.
The Chapel Hill Town Council discussed the petition requesting a plan for the American Legion Property to accommodate both public and private use in their meeting on Wednesday. If enacted, this plan would be the first use for the land since the town purchased it in 2017 for $7.9 million.
