It’s never a surprise when UNC is added to another prestigious list, whether it’s being named Best Public Value School in the country or “Most Entrepreneurial Campus,” among others.
But a new ranking by The Daily Beast, an online reporting and opinion website, places UNC in the top 50 most stressful colleges in America.
Granted, we’re not number one (thank goodness). That “honor” belongs to Columbia University, which ranks highly in all five criteria: cost, competitiveness, acceptance rate, engineering and crime on campus.
UNC comes in at number 43 with the best tuition rate but difficult admission levels and a markedly competitive atmosphere.
The schools included in the rankings are the top 50 universities as determined by U.S. News and World Report ratings. In that regard, we’re lucky to have placed 43 out of 50 — it could have been much worse.
By no means is this is a scientific study, but it’s great for some debate. What do you think? Is UNC a stressful school? Should we have been ranked higher or lower on the list? Let Pit Talk know by commenting below!

This headline is incredibly misleading and these “rankings” very poorly interpreted. We didn’t “make” the top 50 – only 50 schools were ranked, chosen by a completely (maybe) separate metric!!! Don’t more than 50 have to be eligible to determine the “top” 50?!?!?
It’s only stressful if you try.
