You guys all had an emo phase, right?

I recently hid all of the pictures of myself on Facebook from 2008 to 2010 because I went through a distinct "emo phase."

I had sharp bangs and wore colorful skinny jeans and rebellious band T-shirts every day. I pretended to like screamo music and for some reason I wanted to go to this hardcore music festival called Warped Tour.

My mom wouldn't let me go. She wouldn't let me get those raccoon hair extensions either. My mom is wise.

A fun alternative to Warped Tour, all you emo kids, is the Carrboro Music Festival.

It has grown from a small celebration to a massive blowout involving more than 180 bands and 25 venues in the past 18 years.

And no one has ever been aggressively moshed there, I don't think. Unless they were just really excited about Farmers Market prices or something.

QUICK HITS

  • As an artistic exercise, tweet me photos of your emo phase and read this other story about the Carrboro Music Festival.
  • The UNC Spouses and Partners Group is an organization that welcomes spouses and partners of all international students, scholars and other affiliates. That's dope. I would be willing to babysit any or all of their dogs when they are hanging out here!
  • Habitat for Humanity of Orange County partnered with the Northside neighborhood to do exterior beautification on four homes as a part of National A Brush With Kindness Week. Hooray for them!
  • Thirteen of the 24 IFC fraternities at UNC have completed the required sexual assault and violence prevention training program. Hooray for more than half of them!

IN UNIVERSITY NEWS

UNC alumnus Fred Eshelman shelled out a $100 million commitment to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy last year, which prompts innovation in the school. I personally do not have anything to do with pharmacies, but I like money, so I will be submitting my idea for plus-sized hats as an idea that needs innovating.

IN CHAPEL HILL NEWS

According to polling numbers, 33 percent of voters are undecided for mayor. I was thinking of running until I saw how expensive it would be to get stickers printed. Write me in anyway, if you'd like!

IN THE BLOGS

A blogger described what it's like for your mom to have a Snapchat — a feeling I'll never know because my mom says Snapchat is the devil's playground (she's not wrong!), but it seems like it has great comedic potential.
