This time last year, I made a decision I'll regret for the rest of my college career. I took a class that was both outside my major and fulfilled no requirements I needed. I signed up for a 300-level course on environmental law. "For fun."
I stopped going for the last three weeks of class, as one does in a non-major class that meets at 5 p.m. So when finals season rolled around, I had to cram for my life. You have not lived until you've spent 12 hours in one of those nooks in the Student Union listening to hourlong podcasts about environmental impact statements.
At worst, I came out with a loose comprehension of the latest news about the Durham light rail project's being approved by the Federal Transit Administration. At best, I came out with a B+ and a better understanding of my cramming abilities.

QUICK HITS
- A "Feminist Friday" event on campus took on common assumptions about eating disorders and the fact they aren't just a rich, straight white girl problem.
- Rachel Rhodes reminds us that the grieving process is different for everyone. If your friends are experiencing loss, do your best to stay empathetic.
- The teachers who have not yet fled the state of North Carolina are taking a legal battle over losing their tenure to the N.C. Supreme Court.
- If you had a bad weekend, just know it couldn't be worse than the UNC women's basketball team's. They lost to Duke 93-57.
IN TOWN NEWS
After two months, the Trinity Court community is still reeling from the shooting of a 1-year-old girl. Maleah Williams was fatally wounded in a December shooting. A GoFundMe page has raised more than $12,000 for her mother, and two men have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
IN PUBLIC TRANSIT
The Federal Transit Administration has signed off on the GoTriangle light rail project. It's one step closer to the 2026 completion date now that it has an approved environmental impact statement. Again, special thanks to that law class I nearly pass/failed sophomore year.
IN SPORTS NEWS
UNC men's swimming and diving landed a third-place finish at the 2016 ACC Championship. We lost to N.C. State's swimmers, who have apparently really been putting in hours at the swimming hole. We also lost to Louisville, who I don't know enough about to make a generalizing jab.
IN BASKETBALL RITUALS
Mark Clodfelter, a UNC graduate, takes full responsibility for our loss to Duke. Sure, people blame some our players, or maybe Roy Williams for not calling a time out. But it's actually this guy's fault. He wore the wrong T-shirt on game day.
