DTH at a Glance: Breakups

Good morning! In honor of us officially being one week removed from Valentine's Day 2017 (and subsequently in honor of everyone who's been dumped in the last seven days), one of our Swerve writers put together the Ultimate DTH Breakup Playlist™.

If that's not your speed, I've also had my wedding playlist public on my Spotify for about a year now.

It is also possible I have a divorce playlist up there. Just Sagittarius things.

QUICK HITS

  • Now that warm weather is upon us and my dreams of snow are dead, here are four places to go to enjoy the great outdoors. (Note: Three involve physical exercise, but one is, thankfully, just sitting outside Maple View and eating ice cream.)
  • Two Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies fatally shot an armed man in Efland on Saturday. The deputies are currently on administrative leave during the investigation.
  • From the academic-athletic scandal to Carolina Hall — our opinion desk has put together a guide to important topics that UNC first-years (and everyone) should be caught up on.
  • Gov. Roy Cooper recently announced his plan to take steps toward increasing teacher pay more than 10 percent in the next two years.

IN DAILY CRIME

Someone disturbed the peace by "yelling and cursing after trespassing inside (a McDonald's) while carrying a crack pipe." It was 10:34 a.m.

IN JOURNALISM SCHOOL

In coursework I almost took but refused to give up the last Spring Break of my life, the MJ-School is offering a documentary multimedia course that's heading to Cuba next month. The class mashes up photography, reporting and web design to tell international stories.

IN SPACE!!

SpaceX has successfully launched and landed a Falcon rocket from a NASA launchpad in Florida. We spoke with Gerald Cecil, a UNC astrophysics professor, to discuss the privatization and future of the space industry.
