Use of the term 'ladyhole' advances a rape culture

TO THE EDITOR: I’m dismayed by the myopic view of equality suggested by a recent item on this page. January 11’s letter entitled “Term ‘manholes’ advances a misogynistic culture” wrongly takes issue with the use of a commonly accepted aspect of the English language.

Hogan's broken promise: By taking a stipend, Medlin backs out on one pledge he could have kept

Since April 2010, Student Body President Hogan Medlin has broken his campaign commitment to not receive his stipend. By partnering with UNC in the new program, Legal Aid will provide a needed service while affording UNC Law students with a valuable opportunity for practice. Legal Aid traditionally provides counsel to needy individuals who find themselves in “emergency” legal situations, like obtaining a restraining order against an abusive spouse.

Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., in Tuscon this weekend, it is a reminder of the importance of our own civility in our political discourse.

Because everyone else is doing it

It happened again. It came and it went. As expected, “the most wonderful time of the year” left untold millions of dollars in credit card debt and thousands of pounds in guilty, sugared pleasures. It left trees, stripped of elaborate decor, at our curbsides awaiting pickup. It left Snooki having to change her plans for New Years Eve when New Yorkers firmly refused her request to ride the ball down in Times Square.
