Students start UNC for Affirmative Action

UNC for Affirmative Action is a new student group aiming to raise awareness about affirmative action and the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court case that could affect it at UNC.  Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) v. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will be heard on October 31 and has the potential to nullify UNC’s affirmative action policies

GRE testing no longer required for all UNC graduate school admissions

UNC’s Graduate School Administrative Board recently passed a motion that will no longer require Graduate Record Exam (GRE) standardized testing in the admission process for graduate schools.  Individual programs will still be allowed to opt-in to requiring the GRE as part of the admissions process.  “Really look at standardized testing," UNC senior Kristina Vaher said. "You just learn how to take the test, you learn how they want you to answer certain questions on the test. You’re not really increasing your ability to learn in any other aspect."

End of SAT subject tests, essay bring minimal changes to UNC admissions

UNC and additional universities waived their test score submission requirement for the 2021 admissions cycle due to COVID-19. With the College Board's recent announcement that it would no longer offer the optional essay on the SAT or supplemental subject tests, students applying to the University experience a modified application process that could carry on after the pandemic.
