Congress Passes Bill to Ease Appointments

Student Congress created Tuesday an addition to the Student Code that clarifies the rules on external appointments. A bill introducing Title VIII of the Student Code was introduced by Tony Larson, former speaker of Congress, and was passed by the full Congress. The addition to the code takes sections from other titles and places them together to avoid confusion and to promote efficiency when approving all student government external appointments. Executive Branch Finalizes New Cabinet Appointments

Amid chocolate chip cookies and lively discussion about the previous week's events, student government announced the eight newest additions to the Cabinet on Sunday night. Sixty-four students applied, about 30 were interviewed, and the new members were notified Friday evening, said Rebekah Burford, chief of staff for the executive branch of student government. Each of the selected applicants expressed real interest and dedication, Burford said. "They were going above and beyond to make their interest a reality."

Remodeled 'Star' Ready For Morehead Premiere

From Venus to meteor to comet to supernova -- to miracle. The origin of the "Star of Bethlehem" has been debated for centuries, and it is unlikely that an agreement will be reached anytime soon. But the possibilities are worth exploring at the Morehead Planetarium. The "Star of Bethlehem" show, which premiered in 1949, has been remodeled for the first time since 1993. Showings will begin at the planetarium Thursday.

UNC Ceremony Lauds Veterans

Patriotic tunes filtered through the open doors and windows of Gerrard Hall. Inside, U.S. flag ties and pins dotted the room as civilians, veterans and the Tar Heel Brigade -- Army and Air Force cadets and Navy midshipmen -- gathered to pay respects to those who have served and will serve the United States. The University's annual Veterans Day Ceremony was held Monday and featured the Academic Excellence Award presentation, a guest speaker and a tribute to one veteran from each war of the 20th century except for World War I.

University staff and faculty gathered under a blue autumn sky Friday to be recognized for their longtime service and support. The Academic Plan Task Force met Monday to review what was intended to be a final draft of UNC's academic plan.But the task force decided not to submit the draft to the University community in early November, which was the projected deadline.

Week Seeks to Better Campus Atmosphere

To make students more aware of the different cultures and races on campus, a student group is sponsoring Race Relations Week beginning today. Students for the Advancement of Race Relations co-chairwoman and sophomore Cassandra Davis said several events throughout the week will help to encourage different cultures and races to go beyond putting up with one another and actually get to know one another.
