UNC on-campus housing costs continue to rise each year

UNC's increase in on-campus housing costs can be attributed to inflation, development and the upkeep of residence halls. Allan Blattner, executive director of Carolina Housing, said it is the University's responsibility to find ways to provide affordable housing to as many students as possible.

'The American tragedy': UNC chapter of Students Demand Action advocates for ending gun violence

Since her sophomore year of high school, Kyle Lumsden has been involved with Students Demand Action, a national non-partisan organization dedicated to ending gun violence. Now a junior at UNC, she has helped to create a chapter on campus. Lumsden said the group, which was founded at the end of last semester, creates opportunities for students to directly impact and advocate for common sense gun laws.

'Next to Normal' is up next for Company Carolina and Pauper Players

On Friday, the UNC Pauper Players and Company Carolina will perform their version of “Next to Normal,” a musical about a mother with bipolar disorder and the impact her illness has on her family. Emma Clements, a senior and producer, said the musical was selected last summer and rehearsals have been going on since auditions were held in January. The groups chose "Next to Normal" because of the musical's focus on mental health, she said. “There's a big emphasis in the show that we should take care of ourselves and seek help, but we should also be allowed to embrace our emotions and how we feel and all of those things are also valid,” she said.

Asian American Students Association to host kaleidoscope-themed cultural showcase

For over three decades, Journey Into Asia has given students the opportunity to share their culture through dance, poetry, spoken word and songs. On Sunday, the event returns with this year's theme: “Kaleidoscope.”  Hosted by the Asian American Students Association each year, this event showcases Asian and Asian American students’ cultural diversity and creativity within the community.
