On June 27, the N.C. General Assembly overrode Gov. Roy Cooper's veto of the Various Criminal Law and Election Changes bill — previously entitled Unmasking Mobs and Criminals. The bill will reinforce and provide amendments to North Carolina’s ban on the wearing of masks and hoods, which has been on the books since 1953.
On June 21, Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed House Bill 237, which, if enacted, would reinforce North Carolina’s ban on wearing masks in public, loosen the state’s campaign finance laws and change punishments for protests that impede the use of streets.
The largest bond for consideration will be a $300 million bond referendum to support school facilities in Orange County. Chapel Hill voters will also have the chance to approve $44 million in municipal bonds regarding affordable housing, public facilities and more.
