Q&A: Charlie Scott recounts time at UNC as school's first Black scholarship athlete

Assistant Sports Editor Lucas Thomae caught up with Charlie Scott over the phone to discuss his time at UNC. In 1966, the Hall of Famer became the first Black scholarship athlete at North Carolina as a part of the men's basketball team.  He led UNC to back-to-back Final Four appearances in 1968 and 1969, and helped the U.S. take home the gold medal in basketball at the 1968 Olympics.

UNC men's basketball confronts consistency issues following Duke loss

After the lead changed hands many times, Duke completely shut down the Tar Heels' offense in the final minutes of the game to come out victorious, 63-57.  Deadlocked at 57 points as the game clock ticked down, UNC failed to take the lead despite getting the necessary stops on the defensive end. Graduate transfer Pete Nance and RJ Davis both missed shots that would have put UNC ahead late. "I just feel like it's in us," junior guard Caleb Love said. "It's nothing X's and O's. I just feel like it's everything that's in between our chest."
