`Killing Fields' Survivor Talks

A photojournalist who survived the Cambodian holocaust of the 1970s spoke to about 200 people in Hamilton Hall on Tuesday evening about the event's history and the horrors he endured.Dith Pran, a Cambodian who was portrayed in the award-winning movie "The Killing Fields," said education is the only way to stop such violent events from occurring again.

Anti-Sweatshop Activists Will Continue to Fight For Workers

In April 1998, UNC formally and publicly committed to implementing anti-sweatshop policy for all UNC-licensed apparel. This step forward in the fight against sweatshops came after months of student pressure, in particular a four-day sit-in at South Building. Three years later, this policy is being put to the test in a Nike production facility in Atlixco, Mexico.

UNC Association of Student Governments President Andrew Payne is toying with the idea of running for a seat on the Raleigh City Council in November. NRA Does Not Deserve Criticism For Shootings, Glosses Over Real Issues

TO THE EDITOR:Let's take a moment to give credit where credit is due. The cartoon that ran on The Daily Tar Heel's editorial page March 19 was generous enough to give the National Rifle Association the credit for the recent school shooting that took place in California. The problem is that in doing so, they neglect the fact that if parents would take a more active role in their child's life and been more aware of what their child was doing (like acquiring firearms to take to school), school shootings might be prevented.

A few minor technical difficulties failed to disrupt the kickoff of Human Rights Week on Monday night.Problems with the Rev. S.J. Emmanuel's computer slide presentation about the Sri Lankan Civil War left the audience patiently waiting for the beginning of the weeklong series of events that focus on global human rights issues.The week is sponsored by the Globe Committee of the Campus Y.
