I went to high school in East Tennessee, in a predominantly conservative, predominantly Christian county. Rev. Billy Graham dedicated our school chapel in 1991, if that gives you any insight into the culture. Perhaps surprisingly though, my sex education class was comprehensive, informative and thought-provoking.

Researchers at UNC recently contributed to a breakthrough that might have gotten us one step closer to eradicating HIV. Unfortunately, the director of the UNC HIV Cure Center, Dr. David Margolis, noted that we’re still pretty far from a pill that cures HIV.

The term Nacirema is 'American' spelled backward. It was first introduced by Horace Miner in "Body Ritual Among the Nacirema." Today, it is mainly used by anthropologists to distance themselves, and avoid personal bias, when writing about American culture, its rituals and its customs.

But you keep reading the same paragraph over and over, drowning in superfluous terminology and words you are failing to comprehend. And you implore the academia gods above to provide some understanding of the material, or at least give you a less long-winded and verbose text next time.

Students anxiously refreshing their computers in hopes of winning tickets from the lottery system. Everyone storming Franklin Street after victory over in-state rival Duke.

With the start of a new semester comes, for many UNC undergraduates, the start of an LFIT. We students love to hate on LFITs; common complaints are that they’re pointless, that you don’t actually gain anything from the course or that these courses are a waste of time and money.
