The Town of Chapel Hill's parking lots are transitioning to a pre-paid system.

Pucker up and pay up front: Chapel Hill is changing downtown parking payments

Goodbye time tickets, hello prepay: the Town of Chapel Hill's Lots to Love campaign is gearing up to try and transform parking downtown and your attitude toward it. “The switch is more than just moving from the old system to these new meters. It’s all one big initiative to create positive interactions with parking,” said Ran Northam, community safety communications specialist for the town. Lots of Love launched in late April, marking the switch in how you pay for parking and introducing the Park on the Hill Kissing Contest on Instagram.

A parking new plan, in it’s early stages, would put an end to free parking on campus after 5pm.

Administration reviews 5-year plan for parking on campus

The advisory committee on transportation and parking is considering concerns from various groups on UNC’s campus, including the Employee Forum, regarding charging for nighttime parking and other potential changes under UNC’s next five-year parking plan.

Franklin Hotel relocates parking to public lot

Chapel Hill drivers last week lost 40 free public parking spots to guests of The Franklin Hotel. While the hotel’s garage is closed for repairs, guest parking has been relocated to the previously metered lot behind Chipotle on Franklin Street.
