Carolina for the Kids dances its way to fundraising record

Months of planning, recruiting and fundraising culminated with 24 hours of standing — and $570,561 raised for N.C. Children’s Hospital.

UNC Hospitals is a 803-bed facility that serves more than 37,000 people in the Southeast every year. It houses the N.C. Children’s Hospital as well as the N.C. Women’s Hospital. In addition to that, the hospital offers specialized patient care services such as the Diabetes Care Center, the Rehabilitation Center, the Comprehensive Transplant Center and more. UNC houses the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated centers in the United States.

Going into primary care in rural areas has never been the most lucrative option for graduating medical students, but the UNC School of Medicine is trying to address this through the Kenan Primary Care Medical Scholars Program.

A slew of pink-clad firefighters and police officers driving pink firetrucks and police vehicles took over Chapel Hill Tuesday in support of Pink Heals, a national nonprofit organization focused on raising money for women’s health.
