No score at the half of the College Cup final

Through the first 45 minutes of the national championship game neither the North Carolina men’s soccer team nor UNC-Charlotte have managed to net a goal. The 49ers set the tone early, earning a corner kick in the first minute of the game.

The North Carolina men’s soccer team is rather familiar with the atmosphere at the College Cup, but UNC Charlotte is staring down the first national championship appearance in program history. And that is quite obvious on the faces of the players and coaches behind the podium today.


Fedora to UNC not yet official

Southern Mississippi head football coach Larry Fedora is at the center of swirling rumors about the coaching vacancy at North Carolina. Fedora has been a prominent name among many head coaching vacancies in recent weeks, and according to several reports it appears he has settled on UNC. But his older brother, John, told The Daily Tar Heel that as of 2 p.m., he had not heard of his brother accepting the North Carolina position. “I know rumors are out there that he’s accepted a contract,” he said.


UNC defeats St. Mary's to earn College Cup bid

This one makes four. With a 2-0 win against St. Mary’s (Calif.), the North Carolina men’s soccer team punched it’s ticket to a fourth consecutive College Cup. It was Matt Hedges that broke the scoreless tie with a header in the 53rd minute.

P.J. Hairston questionable for Kentucky game

To beat No. 1 Kentucky at Rupp Arena Saturday in Lexington, the No. 5 Tar Heels are going to need all the help they can get. But after sustaining a wrist injury in North Carolina’s 60-57 win against Wisconsin on Wednesday night, freshman guard P.J. Hairston might have to sit out of arguably the biggest game of the regular season.


UNC and Indiana scoreless at the half

The North Carolina men’s soccer team is locked in a tight matchup with the 16 seed Indiana in the third round of the NCAA tournament. The Hoosiers outshot the Tar Heels 9-7 but none of Indiana’s shots were on frame. UNC has forced goalkeeper Luis Soffner to make three saves to keep the game scoreless at the half.


Battle of the blues to take place in Kenan Stadium

Duke hasn’t beaten North Carolina on the football field since 2003, and before that, the Blue Devils hadn’t claimed the victory bell since 1989. But interim head coach Everett Withers emphatically called this game a rivalry.


UNC leads Tennessee State 55-42 at the half

The North Carolina men’s basketball team is on pace to break the century mark for the second straight game as it leads Tennessee State 55-42 at halftime. Both teams knocked down seven 3-point shots, but the Tar Heels did it in just 10 shots and it took the Tigers 17.


UNC beats Coastal Carolina to advance to third round

After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the North Carolina men’s soccer team fought back to win their second round NCAA tournament match up with Coastal Carolina 3-2. In a span of two minutes and three seconds the two teams combined for three goals that took the breath from both benches and every fan in the bleachers. The Tar Heels struck first when Ben Speas beat the keeper to the left as he slide to make a play.

The North Carolina men’s soccer team is trailing 1-0 to Coastal Carolina at halftime of Sunday’s second round match. The nations leading scorer Ashton Bennett netted his 23rd goal of the season as he side behind the UNC defense and recieved a pass from Pedro Ribeiro.
