Governor offers $10,000 for information in Carson case Gov. Mike Easley issued a proclamation Wednesday offering a $10,000 reward for information implicating others in Student Body President Eve Carson's murder. Two Durham men - Demario James Atwater, 21, and Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jr., 17 - already have been charged with the murder. The proclamation from Easley says that police are searching for further information that could implicate others as accessories after the fact.
Men and women's basketball teams head to tournaments The General Alumni Association, Rams Club and Department of Athletics will host farewell send-offs for the men's and women's basketball teams as they head to their respective NCAA Tournaments. The men's team will leave at 2 p.m. today from the Dean Smith Center, Entrance D. The women will depart at 11:30 a.m. from Carmichael Auditorium, at the South Road entrance. The men will face Mount St. Mary's at 7:10 p.m. Friday in Raleigh, while the women will take on Bucknell at noon Sunday in Norfolk, Va.
A prep cook at Carolina Brewery was arrested at 1 a.m. Tuesday on West Rosemary Street on misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Stanley Nathaniel Poole II, 24, of Hillsborough, had a handgun in view. He also is charged with felony counts of possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana, reports state. Police seized 12 grams of marijuana, according to reports. Poole was confined at Orange County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, reports state.
The glass door at La Residence was broken after someone struck the door with their fist, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Damage of $200 to the door was reported at the 202 W. Rosemary St. restaurant at 1:51 a.m. Sunday, reports state. Someone spray painted graffiti along Brookgreen Drive on Sunday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. A stop sign and a bus stop sign were spray painted, causing a total of $50 in damage.
Women's lacrosse No. 3 Virginia handed the No. 7 North Carolina women's lacrosse team its second loss of the season Sunday in the Tar Heels' first conference game. The Cavaliers outscored UNC 16-5, taking advantage of North Carolina's turnovers and sloppy play. "Our level of play was subpar for what we're capable of doing," UNC coach Jenny Levy said. "Certainly to take nothing away from UVa., but we can play with that team and beat that team. But certainly not with the way we played this weekend."

Police arrested a UNC employee for refusing to leave Time Out Chicken on Saturday morning, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Devon Rickey Cleveland, of 2522 Gemena Road, was verbally abusive, reports state. Cleveland works as a food server in Lenoir Hall. He was detained at about 2:47 a.m. at the 133 W. Franklin St. restaurant for misdemeanor counts of possession of drugs, drunk disruptive behavior and second-degree trespassing, reports state. He is schedule to appear in District Criminal Court in Chapel Hill on April 22.
James Michael Shumate, 24, of Hillsborough, was arrested on drug and speeding charges just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Homestead Road, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Shumate faces charges of possession of 4 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and going 48 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone, reports state. Shumate is expected in court in Chapel Hill on April 1.
A UNC employee was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and speeding, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Scott David Williams, 46, of 108 Collums Road, was arrested at 11:04 p.m. Tuesday on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, reports state. He was released on written promise to appear in court. He is scheduled to appear in court April 2, reports state. An incident of credit card fraud was reported at 10:42 a.m. Tuesday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Someone made a $137.52 fraudulent purchase on the credit card, reports state.
Kerbloki has gone through a lot of changes. Originally formed in New York by Mike Westbrook and John Bowman, the band then found its way to Chapel Hill.
