UNC Center for Civil Rights under threat

UNC Board of Governors will vote on whether to pass a litigation ban against the UNC Center for Civil Rights in early September. The ban would prevent the center from representing clients and acting as legal counsel to any party.

Liza Wieland, an English professor at East Carolina University, was recently awarded the prestigious Robert Penn Warren Award for Fiction by the Fellowship of Southern Writers — a nonprofit dedicated to cultivating and recognizing emerging literature from the American South.

The UNC Board of Governors is nearing completion on its strategic five-year plan for the UNC-System.

BOG moves forward on plan to refocus UNC system on five major themes

Soon after UNC-system President Margaret Spellings officially took office, the Boston Consulting Group reported that many felt the system lacked a strategic focus in a study of the UNC system — including administration, faculty, staff and students. This report coincided with the early planning sessions of a new five-year strategic plan for the system. After months of meetings and community forums the UNC-system Board of Governors drafted five themes for the new plan — access, affordability and efficiency, student success, economic impact and community engagement, and excellent and diverse institutions.
